Understanding Gender Identity & Diversity
Gender identity refers to a person’s internal sense of their gender, which may or may not align with the sex they were assigned at birth. People can experience and express gender in many different ways, and exploring or questioning your gender does not in itself mean that something is wrong.
For some people, questions about gender may involve understanding how they see themselves, what feels authentic, how they want to express themselves, or whether and how they want to share this with others. Difficulties can also arise through dysphoria, discrimination, rejection, family or cultural expectations, or feeling unable to express or live in a way that feels congruent with who you are.
Affirming psychological support can help you explore these experiences without assuming what your identity should be or directing you towards a particular outcome, while supporting your wellbeing, self-understanding and choices.
